The role of the goalkeeper within the football team continues to evolve. We have seen in recent times the importance of a goalkeeper within a team. Goalkeepers are now seen as complete footballers and not just goalkeepers. Our young goalkeepers require a specific skill set for shot-stopping and handling crosses but their ability to control and pass the ball with their feet should not be ignored!
At the Sports Direct FAI Summer Soccer Schools we are now providing an unrivaled complete goalkeeper experience. Goalkeepers will take part in specific goalkeeper training sessions, fun games and practices where they can develop the specific skills required to be a top goalkeeper. Our camps now also give them the opportunity to join in with the mainstream camp participants and play as a part of the team in game related situations and practices.
What can we expect from the camp?
Our Goalkeeper Sections run within selected Mainstream Camps from 10:30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday – that’s five fun-filled days top quality coaching. We will have dedicated FAI qualified goalkeeper coaches on site. We have developed a brand new coaching curriculum for our revised Goalkeeper Sections which includes the following:
- Introduction to Goalkeeping & Social Interaction
- Set Position & Basic Handling
- Handling for different types of Shots
- Reaction Work
- Ball Mastery as the Goalkeeper
- Footwork, Bounding and Jumping Technique
- Diving Technique
- Distribution – Throwing and Kicking Technique
- 1v1 Situations and Breakaways
- Fun Games to incorporate all aspects of the modern Goalkeeper
How much does it cost?
Cost to participate is just €65. Along with a full week’s coaching, participants will receive an exclusive Summer Soccer Schools goalkeeping kit (jersey, shorts and socks), a backpack, football and certificate.
